Member Spotlight: Linda Boucher

Today it's time for Linda Boucher to be in the spotlight with her fantastic & colorful art!

Name: Linda Boucher
Age: 38 years old
Shop: Linda Boucher

What kind of things do you make? I paint pictures, mainly of women and shoes!

How long have you been doing your craft? I started painting, first in acrylics, and pretty quickly switched to oils, about 9 years ago…. Prior to that I was a textile artist.

When did you start selling & what inspired you to start selling? I started selling handmade jewelry-on a very small scale- when I was about 16, so 22 years ago!! I’d also do little ‘design’ jobs- like drawings for flyers…. then, when I was about 20, I started looking for a studio.

I found the space I’m still in now…. I fell in love with it, and wanted to work in it.

I didn’t really having a plan or a real sense of what I was doing… but as the studio is on a beach, hand painted t-shirts seemed like a good place to start.

Eventually, I plucked up the courage to attempt ‘proper’ painting… without any formal tuition, this had intimidated me for years… and fortunately, it has worked out really well for me!

I was inspired to sell by the need to pay the rent, and I wanted to spend all my time doing the things I loved to do, in the little studio I’d set up for myself… I guess at that point in my life I just didn’t have anything to lose!

Is this your full time job? Yes it is. Well, this and telling tourists on Brighton Seafront where the bathroom is!

What are your hobbies? Um, Etsy? J

What is your favorite color? I love them all equally…

What is your favorite color combination? I think they all get along pretty well!

Which colors do you use most in your work? Without question, I use more Crimson Alizarin paint than any other color.

What is your number 1 tip for success? Do what you love, and love what you do.

What do you think is the most fun way to promote? The Crafting in Color Team!

Extra bonus points to Linda for that last answer! ;)

Member Spotlight: Diana Evans

This week the it's Diana Evans who gets to be in the spotlight!

Name: Diana Evans
Age : thirty something
Shop: Diana Evans

What kind of things do you make? Neck Art Pendants, Paper Goods - cards, Original Paintings – Acrylic and watercolor, Art Prints, Ornaments coming soon

How long have you been doing your craft? 15+ years

When did you start selling & what inspired you to start selling? I opened up my Etsy shop in February 2008. I heard so much about Etsy from friends and so many artists had their Etsy Shops featured on their blogs so I thought I would check things out. I also had a regular group of people that kept asking me if I had a shop with my work in it…so it only seemed natural to get one up and running.

Is this your full time job? I am a full time Artist and Illustrator. I work on Editorial work and my latest work has been published in children’s literature magazines. I am working on 2 children’s books and love creating fun and colorful art whenever possible. I create each and every day and love what I do.

What are your hobbies? Cooking and Baking and creating new things.

What is your favorite color? The Rainbow…lol

What is your favorite color combination? Blue and Orange

Which colors do you use most in your work? I love all kinds of colors so I would have to say I use a bit of each in each and every piece I create….

What is your number 1 tip for success? BE True to yourself….and the success will come….never second guess your work or why you’re doing it…

What do you think is the most fun way to promote? Blogging, Treasuries, and finding a wonderful group like the Crafting in Color Street Team.

Help needed!

As most of you can probably relate too, the holidays are a busy time for me (Tizz from Tizzalicious). I have a hard time keeping up with all the things I have to do for the team, so I could use a little help.

Amy (from Always Amy) and Marilyn (from Pulp Sushi) are already a great help, as Amy posts the treasuries in the blog whenever she finds out about them, and Marilyn moderates the team's Flickr Group and posts her fantastic "I See CIC" features in the blog every now and then.

I need more help though! If you think you can be helpful in any way, please contact me in a comment here, with a way I can contact you, or send me a convo.

What I would love is:

♥ Ideas for the blog
♥ One or more people who would like to post regular features in the blog, either new ones or features I post now (multicolored monday, tutorial, the themes on Thursday, or the crafting in color wheel)
♥ Submissions for the Member Spotlight! (Find the questions for the interview here)
♥ Anything else you think you can do to be helpful

I would also like to remind everyone to make sure your items are tagged with the "CIC Team" tag. It's really hard to get a nice variety of shops in the blog features, and in treasuries if half of our team doesn't tag the items! We are a large team, but when searching for the "CIC Team" tag that doesn't show! Let's change that!

I hope I can count on you all! Once I get some more help with the blog, I will have more time to reply to the new people who would like to join our team, which will make our team grow and get better!

And if making the team bigger & better isn't a good enough reason to help me out: I am also planning on adding some ad space on the blog, with free spots for the people who are active in our team (that includes those of you who make a lot of treasuries! You are fantastic! ♥).
