Member Spotlight - AbsolutelySmall
Name: Claire Chambers
Age: 27
Location: Cool, CA
Shop: AbsolutelySmall (http://absolutelysmall.etsy.com)
What kind of things do you make?
I make plush creatures such as the Chickenpants, and do a little painting, mostly portraits of bad dogs.
How long have you been doing your craft?
I just celebrated my three year Etsy-versary, but I've been crafting and painting as long as I can remember.
When did you start selling & what inspired you to start selling?
The ease of selling on Etsy really gave me the courage to give it a go. The crafting community that I got involved with through blogs and Flickr were also really encouraging. Plus, at the time I had a tragically dull temp job. Maybe that was the biggest kick to get moving...
Is this your full time job?
Yes.
What are your hobbies?
I don't know that I have any hobbies left! Do reading and video games count as hobbies? How about obsessive shopping for Re-Ments?
What is your favorite color?
Yellow, currently.
What is your favorite color combination?
I love yellow and aqua. And brown and lime green. And navy and aqua. And fuchsia and brown. And gray and yellow. And...okay, I just really, really like color.
Which colors do you use most in your work?
Yellow is of course my base, with the Chickenpants. After that, it's really varied. I enjoy working with lots of color.
What is your number 1 tip for success?
Keep at it! Promote your butt off. The more energy you put into your business, the more it will grow.
What do you think is the most fun way to promote?
Contests are really fun! I like to be able to give things away to the people who have been supporting me.

What kind of things do you make?
Mostly jewelry and accessories, but I also enjoy making other things like softies, key chains, magnets, etc.
How long have you been doing your craft?
For as long as I can remember! When we were little, my sister and I were always making earrings and hair clips, sewing barbie clothes, etc.
When did you start selling and what inspired you to start selling?
I started selling in 2007. I am on disability because of chronic migraines, but really wanted to be able to make a living for myself, without depending on disability. My boyfriend lives in Denmark, and to be able to move there, I have to be able to provide for myself, as I won't be able to get disability there. No pressure at all ;)
Is this your full time job?
Yes.
What are your hobbies?
Shopping, watching movies, anything Blythe doll related, photography, going to concerts, sewing, playing Wii, and random crafty things.
What is your favorite color?
Pink.
What is your favorite color combination?
Pink and Red!
Which colors do you use most in your work?
Pink and red I think, haha :D
What is your number 1 tip for success?
Create things you love, have a consistent looking shop with good photographs, and promote, promote, promote!
What do you think is the most fun way to promote?
Twitter and blogging.

Member Spotlight - SilkStory
Name: Zita Rutkauskiene
Age: 55
Location: Kedainiai,Lithuania, Europe
Shop: http://www.silkstory.etsy.com
What kind of things do you make?
I do silk painting and also paint silk scarfs. Each piece of work is a creation of a different fantastic story. In the period of 1976-1986 was working as an artist-fresco restorer. Has participated in numerous exhibitions with her fresco-miniatures in Kaunas, Vilnius, Kedainiai (Lithuania) as well as in United Kingdom, Sweden and Poland.
How long have you been doing your craft?
I've been painting on silk for 7 years.
When did you start selling and what inspired you to start selling?
I started selling my works online on Etsy.com last year (2009). I was encouraged by my family, which is a great support and a continuous inspiration!
Is this your full time job?
No. I still have to go to my day job, but I am seeking to quit my day job and make painting on silk as my day job.
What are your hobbies?
One of my many hobbies is traveling. I like discovering people and places. And when I cannot travel in physical terms, I do so in my mind and creative imagination - that's how some of my silk stories are born.
What is your favorite color?
I like blue, red, violet, earth colours, or deep and strong shades like tobacco.
What is your favorite color combination?
Marine blue with shades of violet. Also palette of red.
Which colors do you use most in your work?
Hole palette of colours, but mostly reds and blues.
What is your number 1 tip for success?
Keep knocking and the door will be opened to you!
What do you think is the most fun way to promote?
I think that the best way to promote your work is to be nice and friendly with people who are genuinely interested in your work. I am not a business woman, I am an artist who loves creative process, so what I care about most is my work and sharing it with people.
